3.8 Searchfunctions in the OpenEMM

With the search function you can search different fields. You can also use wildcards in the search field and link several terms:

Question mark as a placeholder for an unknown character

For example: Birthday?mailing

If it is not clear whether the term birthday mailing is hyphenated or space, and the unknown character is replaced by a question mark, the OpenEMM will display all existing matches that are within the specified letter string. A question mark always represents an unknown character, multiple question marks can also be used within a term.

Asterisks and percent signs as placeholders for any number of unknown characters

For example: Christmas / Christmas%*

The asterisk or percent sign stands for any number of characters and can also include several words. The example shown would display all hits beginning with "Weihnacht", e.g. Christmas greetings, Christmas edition, Christmas 2020.

If you would like to enter several terms at the same time, you have the following options:

Exact search by quotation marks

For example: "We wish"

If there are two or more terms inside quotation marks, the OpenEMM will search the fields for exactly this sequence of words. It will not display results that contain only one of the terms, or in which both terms have been used in a different order

Linking by plus sign

For example: "We wish" + birthday

If two or more terms are linked with a plus sign, only results containing all terms will be displayed.

Linking by spaces

For example: Birthday Name day

If two or more terms are separated by a space, it is an OR search. All hits are displayed that contain at least one of the searched terms.

Terms in parentheses

For example: "We wish" + (birthday name day)

The example shown would display all hits that contain the phrase "We wish" on the one hand and either birthday or name day on the other. However, at least one of the terms in the parenthesis must be contained in the result, since there is a plus sign between them.

It is allowed to nest the different possibilities arbitrarily.

For example: "We wish" + ("all the best" "all the love") + (birthday name day)
