12.4 usage of triggers
12.4 Usage of triggers
So far we have only dealt with the creation of the actions. Now it is a matter of using the created triggers. triggers are primarily used in mailings or in forms, as you can already deduce from the selection field Usage. There are also special applications that are also based on triggers.
12.4.1 Linking triggers and trackable links
There are three ways to use actions in the mailing:
-
You can specifically link every measurable link in your mailing to a trigger. In this way, you can implement functions such as when a recipient clicks on a certain post, a followup mailing is to be sent 7 days later with further information on this topic or a profile field is to be set high on a certain interest.
-
In addition, there is the possibility to assign a Default click trigger. In this case it does not matter which link is clicked. No matter where the recipient clicks, the default trigger is executed. This could be, for example, that the click date is stored in the recipient profile.
-
The third option is the most far-reaching: With the Default open trigger, the deposited trigger is already executed when a measurable opening is detected for the recipient. Here, too, you could save the date of the last opening in the receiver profile or count up a counter.
If you would like to use one or more of these options, call up the Links tab in your mailing. Here you can assign the desired trigger to each individual link in the table via the trigger selection field or assign the default triggers via the area below the link table.
Please note: triggers can only be executed for measurable links. In the setting Not trackable, triggers are not taken into account, because the call does not run via the EMM.
You can read more about measurable links and the assignment of triggers in chapter Editing links.
12.4.2 Use triggers in forms
Triggers can also be used in forms. There are two possible uses for triggers in forms:
-
First, an Introductory trigger can be executed with the form, i.e. the steps defined in the trigger are run through before the form is displayed. This would be necessary in a preference center, for example, to display the interests stored in the recipient profile.
-
On the other hand, a Final trigger can be performed on forms. This is used in the Double-Opt-in process, for example. After a prospective customer has completed and submitted the registration form, a second form is then loaded, confirming to the prospective customer that his data has been submitted. This form triggers the sending of the double-opt-in mailing at the same time as a final trigger.
12.4.3 Special use cases for triggers
Besides the already presented fields of application of actions for links as well as forms, there are further possibilities to use actions.
For example, a DOI action for new recipients can be selected in import profiles. As the name already suggests, the point is that addresses that are newly added to a mailing list by an import first receive the status Waiting for double opt-in confirmation. At the same time, a double opt-in mailing is to be sent to the new recipients so that they can confirm receipt of the newsletter. For this reason, only actions that include the steps Add / update recipient data and Send action-based mailing are displayed in the selection menu.
In addition, the trigger Send action-based mailing can also be triggered with web service methods, e.g. to provide a recipient registered via web service with a double opt-in mailing.
